The Balaton Region

In Héviz, the main attraction is the thermal spa lake which is open all year round (typically 28-32 °C). Visitors come from around the world for the mineral waters and healing properties. A visit to the thermal lake costs just a few pounds, and is a superb experience. Héviz, being a small affluent holiday town, is also very safe and quiet. Further afield, the Lake Balaton region is the main tourist area for Hungary, and there are lots of things to do locally - sailing, alpine style walking, wine tasting, trips to Budapest (2 hours away), the spectacular palace at Keszthaly (5km away) as well as the local sights.
